Construction Projects Get Underway at YXS

Prince George, BC— Passengers can expect to see a few changes taking place at the Prince George Airport (YXS) now that the busy construction season is upon us. The Prince George Airport Authority (PGAA) is spending over $5 million dollars in capital upgrades which are scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.

Projects slated for construction include apron one rehabilitation, upgrades to Gate 2 in the Boarding Lounge and the construction of the elevator and new stairwells from the long term parking lot to the terminal level.

PGAA Director of Operations, Cuyler Green, says “we are still working out the fine details in terms of schedule, but people can expect to start seeing some changes in the coming weeks. The first major project of the season will be the replacement of concrete panels on Apron One. “

“We ask the traveling public for their patience as we work to further improve their experience at YXS” says Airport Authority President and CEO, John Gibson. “There will be some disruptions, but we will do our best to ensure the temporary changes are communicated to the public in a timely manner.”

Airport customers can also expect to see new flooring in the departures area as well as new check in counters and PA system in the terminal.

Partial funding for the elevator project came from the BC Government while Northern Development Initiative Trust helped fund the Gate 2 construction project.
