PRINCE GEORGE AIRPORT AUTHORITY DONATES FIRE FIGHTING TRUCKS TO BARKERVILLE HISTORIC TOWN AND PARK

The Prince George Airport Authority (PGAA) has donated two Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) trucks to Barkerville Historic Town & Park. These trucks, previously part of the PGAA’s ARFF fleet, are being given a new purpose following a fleet upgrade to meet regulatory standards. Though retired from airport service, the trucks are still fully operational and will play a crucial role in safeguarding Barkerville’s historic structures.

“Community support is at the core of everything we do at the Prince George Airport Authority (PGAA)” says Gordon Duke, President and CEO of the Prince George Airport Authority. “This is a unique opportunity for us to give these trucks a second life, and we are proud to support Barkerville Heritage Trust and its historic site.”

Barkerville, known for its deep historical significance and wooden heritage buildings, faced heightened fire risks this past summer. The donation of these trucks comes as a welcome reinforcement for the Barkerville fire protection team.

“Our team is incredibly grateful for this donation,” said Carrie Chard, General Manager of Barkerville Historic Town & Park. “With wildfires becoming a persistent threat, particularly to our aged wooden structures and surrounding forest, these trucks will significantly enhance our firefighting capabilities. This gift from the Prince George Airport Authority highlights how surplus resources can have a meaningful impact on communities like ours. The next order of business will be sorting out how to get them to our end of Highway 26.”

The donation underscores PGAA’s commitment to strengthening community ties and supporting the preservation of regional landmarks like Barkerville, which holds a special place in the hearts of many in Prince George and beyond.
